  • You have by now looked at a lot of different websites and printed them out.
  • Sometimes, you want to use the information in a document, save information from a website or download a file.

Your turn! Copy and Paste

  • One of the easiest ways to make use of information from an Internet page, is to copy and paste it into a document
  1. Click on this website - www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/. This is the BBC recipe search.
  2. Search for a recipe for a dish that you like or would like to know how to cook
  3. When you have found a recipe that you like, click on it to see the ingredients
  4. You can copy and paste the recipe into a Word document and build up your own recipe book!
    1. Select just the ingredients and method using the mouse:
      copy-text.png
    2. Right-click on the highlighted text and click on copy
    3. Open Microsoft Word (or Word Pad) from the Start menu
    4. Type in the name for the recipe and press enter
    5. Click on Edit|Paste

      pasted-text.png
    7. Save your recipe by clicking on File|Save As… (check with your tutor where to save your work)

Your turn! Save/Copy images

  • The BBC recipe site was great, but it didn't have a good picture of the dish to go with the recipe
  • You can easily find images on just about any subject using Google image search.
  1. Here's the link to Google image search - images.google.co.uk
  2. Type in the name of your dish and press enter
  3. A number of images will be displayed:
    google-image-results.png

  5. Then on the next screen, click on the text see full size image:
    google-image-select.png
  6. Finally you will see the full size image on its own
  7. Right-click on the image and then choose Save picture as… and save it to the same place as your recipe:
    image-save.png
  8. The image has now been downloaded to your computer
  9. It is just as easy to copy and paste the image into your document too:
    1. Right-click on the image again, but this time choose copy
    2. Go back to your Word document and place the cursor underneath the title, but before the ingredients list
    3. Click on Edit|Paste and your picture should appear. You might need to resize it:
      pasted-image.png
    4. Save the Word document again
    5. Print your Word document.

    • Music - eg iTunes
    • Video clips
    • Games

  • A link to a file looks like any other hyperlink, but when you click on it, the file will open in the appropriate program.

  2. It is a map of how to get to the Lifelong Learning and Skills office

    2. Right-click on the link and choose Save target as…
    3. A file box appears. Save the file with your recipe and image.
