Lesson 2
Favorites and History
- If you visit a website a lot, you don’t have to key in the web address every time
- Simply add the website to your Favorites list (also known as bookmarking)
- You can go back to any pages you've visited in the last few weeks by looking at your Internet history
- If you don't want anybody else to find out what sites you've visited you might want to clear your history at regular intervals!
Your Turn! Favourites
- A website that we will use a lot on this course is the Google UK website. This website is a search engine and we will use it to find information on the Internet.
- Click here to open a blank page for this exercise
- Type in the web address www.google.co.uk and press enter to go to the site.
- Click on Favorites|Add to Favorites… and you will see this screen:

- Change the name to Google UK and click on Add.
- To check that the site has been added, click on the Favorites menu and your entry should be there:

- Now go to the BBC website by keying in the web address you used in Lesson 1: www.bbc.co.uk
- Add this site to your Favorites list too.
- Use the Favorites menu to go back to the Google website.
- You can add this Learn The Net website to your Favorites too.
Your Turn! History
- When you use the Internet, all the websites you visit are stored in the History folder.
- To see where you have been, click on the History icon and then on Today. Click on one of the websites to see the pages you visited within that site. If you can’t find the history icon, click on View|Explorer Bar|History:
- Click on any of these websites to view them again.
- You can change how much history to keep from 0 to 28 days. To do this click on Tools|Internet Options (this might not work if you are in an IT suite with restrictions on the computers). You can also delete your history from here.
Summary
You should now be able to:
- Add a website to your favorites list
- Go to a website saved in favorites
- Look at your Internet history
- Go back to a website you previously visited
